Graduate Fundraising

The Graduate Student Association (CJC-GSA) in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Washington State University plays a vital role in enhancing graduate student life, and securing funding is essential to support its initiatives. These funds can be used to organize professional development workshops, community engagement events, and mentoring programs that align with the GSA’s mission to improve the quality of graduate education and foster a supportive academic environment.

Distinguished Guests

Funds raised through our efforts empower graduate students in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology to enrich academic experiences by inviting guest speakers to campus. These speakers—experts in diverse areas of the criminal justice field—engage with both graduate students and undergraduate students, fostering dynamic discussions on contemporary issues, emerging research, and practical applications. This support helps bridge classroom learning with real-world insights, contributing to the professional development of our graduate community and department.

Recent Guest Speaker

On October 2, 2024, the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology proudly hosted David L. Garlock for a powerful discussion on incarceration and reentry. As a returning citizen, reentry professional, and vocal advocate for criminal justice reform, David shared his compelling journey and emphasized the transformative role of rehabilitation in building an equitable justice system. His story—marked by resilience and purpose—began during a 25-year sentence in Alabama, of which he served 13 years after taking the life of his abuser. While incarcerated, David pursued education with determination, ultimately earning a bachelor’s degree from Eastern University. Today, he empowers future justice professionals through his advocacy and outreach, leaving a lasting impact on both graduate and undergraduate students at WSU.
