PhD Candidate Profile

PhD Candidate Profile:

Ph.D. Mikala Meize smiling.Mikala Meize – I am a doctoral candidate in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Washington State University. My research focuses on the response of the criminal justice system to cannabis-related offenses committed by youth in light of marijuana legalization.

I chose WSU first because of the atmosphere. There is something about the Cougar spirit that really encouraged me to stick around. I completed both my BS in Psychology and my master’s degree in Criminal Justice and Criminology at WSU. Pursuing my PhD at WSU was a decision I made based on the quality of education I was receiving and the faculty I wanted to do research with.

My fun fact is that I have eight copies of my favorite book (Pride and Prejudice). Every time I go somewhere new, I try to find a unique copy for my collection.

After graduating with my PhD from WSU, I intend to continue my research on the effects of marijuana policies throughout the country. I’m not sure yet where I want to do this, but I look forward to sharing what I learn with other scholars as I continue my research.
